Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to identify objects on a map. They will collaboratively decide on where to place the seedling garden taking into account the views and opinions of others in the class. They will show their knowledge and understanding of the needs of plants while designing the garden.

Book – Jack’s Garden Review needs of fruit and vegetables. Check experiment to see how the seeds are growing. Ask students if they wish to change their predictions. Discuss that we are going to plan a garden to transfer the seedlings into. First we need to find a good place.
“It’s time to do” Song
Students are split into the 6 de bono groups. They are told that while doing the nature walk they need to be wearing their ‘hats’ to think about where our garden could go |

Nature walk around different areas of the school. Some appropriate for building a garden some not Back at the classroom DRAW: the areas we went to around the school ASK: What are the 4 things plants need to grow? What one of the areas we went to could we build our garden in?
White – What do the plants need to grow? Will they grow in each of the areas? Black – What will happen if we plant the plants in the wrong place? Can a garden be built here? Yellow – What are the benefits of putting the garden here? Red – Would the rest of the school like it if we put the garden here? Would the animals like it? Would the plants like it? Green – If you could put the garden anywhere where would you put it? Why? Blue – How can we gather everyone’s idea and display them so they we can come up with a class decided place to put the garden?
Representitive from each group puts forward their ideas. Together the class decides on a place to put the garden.

Teacher shows class the simple map on the board of the area they are going to plant the garden in. ASK: Can you see that this is a ‘tree’? Can you see the ‘path’? Can you see any other items you can recognise? Where were we going to put the garden? What shape do you think the garden should be? Do you know what this is called (map)? |

What have I learned this morning? Get children to respond to photo’s of themselves taken during activity centre time.
Photos are kept and map is kept to show to the principle when the proposal is put forward to them next lesson.
